Chapter Nine

Our hearts pounded as one as I held her close, our bodies slowly recovering from our night together on Mars. She was as much of a cuddle-slut as the rest of us, and I felt that deep need to keep her safe rise up in my chest. Not her body, although that was a small aspect of it. She was an S-class superhero after all, my goddess of storms. Save magic or someone more powerful she was quite formidable, and my nanite swarm device guarded that one weakness.

No, it was her heart, and her desire and need to be adored and loved that I wanted to hold safe.

Her hand absently caressed my chest, and I wondered if she was enjoying my fingertips teasing the small of her back and her rich dark reddish-brown hair as much as I was enjoying her touch, as our hearts steadied. In that moment we merely existed together in that post coital contentment and a sense of affection and serenity.

“There’s something I’ve been wanting to talk about, and it seems like the right time. It’s not about us, or at least not on a personal level.”

She kissed my chest with her warm lips, and then looked up at me through her eyelashes. Gods, she was so incredibly beautiful, more so to me with every passing moment and shared intimacy.

The truth was I didn’t deserve her. I didn’t deserve Thea’s and Faith’s endless devotion and blind love either, but I was shameless enough to accept it and try to be worthy of it. It also wasn’t all about me. My three ladies loved in all directions, and that had made my life endlessly rich.

“What’s on your mind?”

I teased the top of her ass crack, and lower back with my fingertips, drawing a both contented and rather decadent sigh from her lips. I loved the way her firm generous breasts felt crushed into my side and chest as she half laid on me, but not nearly as much as I loved the way she looked at me with those stunning gray eyes.

“You know my first project, to save the world. At least, that was how I saw it. The quickening events are back at a much more manageable rate, and although we can’t put the lid back on the titan level supers the ones that go bad should be a lot less. More easily handled with Oracle and Team Titan being… stretched too far. Especially with Thea to take up the slack.”

She grinned, “I know. You’ve done so much for the planet, an ungrateful one. At least the governments are, and their pet supers. I just wish I could help you, but I don’t have the skills.”

I chuckled, and kissed her forehead.

She tilted her head, “Something funny?”

I nodded, “Sort of, I was just getting to the part where you could help.”

She blushed, “Oh, really? Me?”

“Yes, you, Lina. It’s too early in our relationship for a lot of things, but I know you well as a person, the type of woman you are, and you awe me.
